9-1-1 > Training

When are training classes offered? We are currently working on the 2010 calendar.  It will be posted quarterly. Contact the Training Coordinator at gstone@spag.org with any questions.

What types of training does SPAG's 9-1-1 offer? Basic Telecommunicators classes, TDD/TTY course and Cultural Diversity for Dispatchers.

Telecommunicator Levels

Basic Telecommunicator To qualify for a basic telecommunicator proficiency certificate, an applicant must meet all proficiency requirements including:

  •  Successful completion of Basic Telecommunicator Certification Course (1013)
  •  Successful completion of Department field training course (3720)
  •  One year of experience in public safety telecommunications

Intermediate Telecommunicator To qualify for an intermediate telecommunicator proficiency certificate, an applicant must meet all proficiency requirements including:

  •  40-hour Basic Telecommunicator Certification. If the basic telecommunications certificate was received on or after January 1, 2000, all of the following courses must be completed:
  • Cultural Diversity

  • Ethics for Law Enforcement

  • Crisis Communication

  • Successful completion of TLETS/NLETS 3809, TCIC/NCIC 3802 or Criminal Law 3100

  • Spanish for Law Enforcement.

  • At least two years experience in public safety telecommunications

  • 120 training hours

Advanced Telecommunicator To qualify for an advanced telecommunicator proficiency certificate, an applicant must meet all proficiency requirements including:

  • Intermediate Telecommunicator certificate

  • Four years experience in public safety telecommunications;

  • 240 training hours
