Volunteer > South Plains Citizen Corps
Mission: To inspire, guide, and empower every individual to make a commitment to build community pride and patriotism; to help unite the efforts of the communities in crime prevention, mitigation, emergency preparedness, and emergency response; to help the people of the South Plains Region be safer, stronger, and better prepared for any type of emergency. President George W. Bush has called all Americans to dedicate at least two years of their lives - the equivalent of 4,000 hours - in service to others. “Together, we can protect
our communities and make them places where responsibility and service
are reflected in the good we do for others.” Local leaders, mayors, council members, and county commissioners in the South Plains Region are encouraged to organize, participate, and lead the community in a unified effort to promote public health and safety, disaster preparedness, and crime prevention. One of the primary responsibilities of the council is to educate the public on safety and to teach the community what to do in the event of a crisis. The council plays a major role in bringing together all sectors of the community, including first responders and volunteer groups. The Citizen Corps leadership oversees local and national programs such as the Neighborhood Watch Program (NWP), Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS), Medical Reserve Corps (MCR), and Fire Corps. Join the South Plains Citizen Corp Council and/or any other program of your choice. What better way to promote patriotism and lend a hand to protect Americans? Help America sustain the spirit of volunteerism. Let’s work together to defend freedom and to effectively prevent and respond to the threats of terrorism, crime, and natural or man-made disasters.
